Jepsen, who’s currently touring with Hanson, made the announcement on MuchMusic Tuesday night with a special recorded message from Bieber himself.
“I teamed up with Scooter Braun and Jimmy Iovine,” Bieber said in the video. “When I was in Canada, I heard a song on the radio called Call Me Maybe, and I thought it was a smash.”
Braun, who helped discover Bieber, also called into the show, telling everyone that he thought Bieber was onto something after informing him about Jepsen’s song Call Me Maybe, adding, “the last time I worked with a Canadian, it worked out really well.”
Then Bieber jumped on the line, surprising Jepsen to the point of tears, and told her, “I’m excited for you to be able to come out to L.A. and work on your album.”
“I’m speechless. It’s an exciting journey we’re going on,” said Jepsen, “and I’m very grateful and very excited.”
Bieber hopes to sign more Canadian artists in order to break them internationally. Well, if anyone’s going to do it, it may as well be the Biebs.
